Orain dela milaka urte, gizakiak lurra jendeztatzen hasi zirenean, ez ziren ez Eguzkia ez Ilargia existitzen eta jendea ilunpean bizi zen beti, izaki maltzurrek ikaratuta. “Lore bat sortuko dut zuentzat, hain ederra izango da non gaueko izakiek ikusten dutenean Eguzkia dela usteko duten”, esan zuen Ama Lurrak. Eta Amalurrak Eguzkilorea sortu zuen, gaurdaino etxeak izpiritu gaizto, gaixotasun eta ekaitzetatik babestu dituena. Baserrietako ateen goialdean kokatzen dira eta, izpiritu maltzurren batek etxean sartzeko asmoa badu, infloreszentziako ile edo braktea mordoa zenbatzeko gelditu beharra du; hala, eguzkiak ustekabean harrapatuko du bere zeregina bukatu gabe duela.
Kardu basatiaren edo Karlina acaulisaren lorea, eguzki-lore laburra edo eguzki-lore luzea, Asteraceae familiako Karlina generoko landare-espezie bat da. Mendi-hegal eguzkitsuetan eta larre harritsuetan hazten da, ekaina eta iraila artean. Zimeltzen ez den lorea da, eta horri esker edertasuna eta freskura mantentzen ditu. Babestutako espeziea da egun eta, beraz, moztea debekatua dago.
Thousands of years ago, when human beings started populating the Earth, neither the Sun or the Moon existed and people lived in constant darkness, afraid of evil beings. “I will create for you a flower so beautiful that, when they see it, the beings of the night will think it’s the sun itself,” said Mother Earth. And Amalur created the Eguzkilore flower – Flower of the Sun – that to this day protects and safeguards homes from evil spirits, illness, or storms. People place them on the doors of farmhouses so if an evil spirit tries to enter, he must stop and count the many hairs or bracts of the inflorescence and the day will sneak up on him without having finished the task.
The flower of the silver thistle or Carlina acaulis, stemless carline thistle, or dwarf carline thistle, is a perennial flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It grows in sunny, chalky, and dry hillsides and pastures between June and September. The flower does not whither, keeping its beauty and freshness. It is a protected species, picking it is prohibited by law.
